Important Update: The SBSCH is Closing – please start planning now

The ATO has announced that the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) will permanently close on 1 July 2026. If you currently rely on the SBSCH to process your superannuation guarantee (SG) payments, now is the time to start looking for an alternative solution.
Transitioning early will help ensure your super payments remain compliant and avoid any disruptions.

Why You Should Find an Alternative Now

  • Acting early gives your business time to:
  • Have a new super payment process in place for the final two quarters before the closure
  • Avoid the risk of late Superannuation Guarantee payments for the April–June 2026 quarter (due 28 July), as the SBSCH will already be closed
  • Adjust your cash flow if you plan to move to more frequent Superannuation Guarantee payments
  • Finalise your SBSCH activity and download any reports you need before the system shuts down

Key SBSCH Dates to Be Aware Of

If you continue using the SBSCH, please note these important milestones:

  • 28 January 2026 – January–March SG quarterly payment due.
  • February–March 2026 – Recommended window to transition to an alternative super payment solution.
  • 28 April 2026 – April–June SG quarterly payment due.
  • 30 June 2026 – Final day to use the SBSCH, make last payments and download reports.
  • 1 July 2026 – SBSCH permanently closes and will no longer be available.

Alternative Options to Consider

Many businesses already have other options available without realising it. You may not need to sign up for a new service from scratch.

1. Your existing accounting or payroll software

Most modern payroll and accounting systems offer built in superannuation clearing features. If you are unsure whether yours does, we can help you check.

2. Your default super fund

Many super funds offer free super clearing services for employers.

3. Commercial clearing houses or digital payroll providers

These can be suitable if your software doesn’t include super processing or if you need additional features.
For guidance on approved super payment options, the ATO provides a list under “How to pay super.”
